The mission of the Communications Electronics Program is to provide specialized classroom instruction and practical lab experience to prepare students for employment in a variety of jobs in the field of communications electronics or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in related communications electronics occupations.  The program generally prepares individuals to assemble, install, operate, maintain, and repair one-way and two-way communications equipment and systems, including AM, FM, and Single-Sideband and other electronic communication devices or systems.

The program includes instruction in using actual equipment or educational trainers for various types of equipment motors, mechanical diagrams/schematics; radar; fiber optics; laser technology; computer applications; telecommunications; microwave; diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques; the use of testing equipment; Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and National Association of Business and Education Radio (NABER) license requirements.
Basic Electronics is required as a PREREQUISITE for Communications Electronics.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE

1.  Register for admissions test in the Student Personnel Services Office.

2.  Schedule to take Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test and fill complete an application for admissions.

3.  An orientation session will be scheduled by the Student Personnel Services Officer, and/or applicant’s
     name will be placed on a waiting list.

ADMISSIONS INFORMATION

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be 16 years or older.

EDUCATION
A high school diploma or GED equivalency is recommended but not required (exception: Health Occupations and Office Occupations Programs). Documentation of high school diploma or GED is required of those students who have earned it. Entering students who do not have a high school diploma or GED may attend GED classes one period daily (exception: Nursing Assistant, Marine Operations, Practical Nursing, and Commercial Diving).

ENROLLMENT
Students are accepted throughout the year for most programs or at the beginning of a school term.
