Pool Encosure
Construction Begins
October 12, 2000
Construction for the covering of Young Memorial's
training pool has begun. Industries support has made year round water survival training
possible. The building will complete a year long undertaking that started with the
donation of the training pool by Candy Fleet Inc. and completed with the building donated
by Seacor Marine.

STCW Basic Safety Classes
August 18, 2000
STCW Basic Safety Training classes are underway at Young
Memorial. Students take part in a five day, four part training course to meet Coast Guard
requirements for their Basic Safety Training. |

Wheelhouse On Site
May 4, 2000
Thanks to River
Parishes Towing, Encso Marine and Seacor Marine,
Young Memorial has received the donation of a Wheelhouse for the purpose of STCW 95
Training.
The entire project, valued at $45,000, is essential for use in the Basic Fire Fighting
Component of Basic Safety Training. The Wheelhouse will be used in training that
will have mariners execute locate-and-rescue procedures in a zero visibility environment.
This day-long event could not have been possible without the expert assistance of numerous
Faculty and Staff including: Capt. Carl Moore, Capt. Jason Matherne, Jimmy Sawtelle
(Marine Operations); Paul Boudreaux, Matt Howard, Glenn Robichaux (Welding); Roger Thacker
(Commercial Diving); Sidney Smith (Maintenance.) |

Welding Students Chipping In
May, 2000
Young Memorial High School Welding Students recently
assisted in the construction of the mock ups needed for the New Fire Field for Young
Mermorial’s STCW—Basic Safety Fire Fighting and Tank Barge Fire Fighting
Courses.

Pool
and Fire Field Nearing Completion
April, 2000
Thanks to donations from Industry progress is steadily moving
forward. Work on Young Memorial's Pool and Fire Field are approaching their final stages
of construction. Finishing touches will continue through the spring. |
